Utah pressing for CFP spot vs. Oregon in Pac-12 Championship odds

Conference championship Game Friday night.

In the wake of Duke's loss to SFA, bettors should watch out for these mid-major monsters | News Article by SportsBettingOnline.ag

The path to the College Football Playoff doesn’t likely lead through the Pac-12, where the Oregon Ducks meet the Utah Utes in the conference championship Game Friday night.

However, if conference title games like the ACC, SEC or Big 12 don’t go according to plan, there’s a slim chance Utah slides into a final four spot – if the Utes can beat up on Oregon inside Levi’s Stadium.

The Utes are 6.5-point neutral-site favorites Friday night. If you’re betting on ncaa football betting lines for the Pac-12 Championship Game, here are the angles and edges you’ll want to work into your handicapping.

Justin Time
Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert entered the 2019 season with big expectations. Not only was the projected No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft promised to take home the Heisman Trophy as college football’s top player but also lead the Ducks to the CFP Championship.

A Week 1 loss to Auburn pretty much set those plans on their side right from the jump, and a Week 13 loss to Arizona State put them to bed, but that’s not to say that Herbert hasn’t enjoyed a solid season. He’s thrown for 3,140 yards and 31 touchdowns with only five interceptions and makes Oregon competitive in every single game.

Herbert has struggled a bit recently, with four of those five INTs coming in the past four games, and is coming off his weakest showing off the season after passing for only 174 yards on 30 attempts in a win over Oregon State in the season finale.

Herbert and the Ducks take on the Utes third-ranked defense in yards allowed, which gives up just 11.2 points per contests on the season. Utah has held opposing quarterbacks to an average passer rating of 110.2 – fifth lowest in the country.

Ute Ought To Know
While the Utes one-loss season is rooted in defense, the Utah offense is just as dangerous. This scoring attack sits 27th in the nation in average yards an outing and put up an average of 35.6 points – 18th in the country.

The rushing attack is the base of the offense, charging for almost 215 yards on the ground per game. That’s allowed the Utes to control the pace and dominate the football with an average time of possession count of 34:40, which ranks third most in the FBS. Utah has been able to ground-and-pound better offensive teams, parking their skill players on the sideline and playing defense with methodical offense.

Oregon has done well to slow the rushing in 2019, allowing 107.7 run yards per contest. Versus Arizona, one of the better run games in the Pac-12, the Ducks held the Wildcats to 108 yards on 39 carries – an aveage of only 2.8 yards per run.

Total time
The Over/Under betting total for the Pac-12 Championship Game opened at 51 points and has been bet down to 47.5, with both teams able to run the ball and keep the game clock moving. There is also wind and rain in the forecast for San Francisco Friday evening, which could keep big pass plays to a minimum.

Oregon enters the conference title game with a 5-7 O/U record while Utah is 3-8-1 O/U on the year. These teams have gone Over in six of their last seven meeting, going back to 2013.
