Three NBA teams that could be diamonds in the rough for basketball bettors | News Article by SportsBettingOnline.ag

No one saw it coming, but the Orlando Magic finished as one of the best bets on the NBA hardwood with a 45-36-1 ATS mark in 2015-16. The year before that, the Atlanta Hawks went a shocking 50-30-2 ATS – covering the spread 62.5 percent of the time.

Who will be this year’s surprise NBA cash cow for basketball betting online? These three squads could be diamonds in the rough for basketball bettors in 2016-17:

Minnesota Timberwolves
The T-Wolves have two of the brightest young stars in the NBA in Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, not to mention the overshadowed Gorgui Dieng, who will fill in for the loss of Nikola Pekovic to an Achilles’ injury, and an entertaining backcourt of Ricky Rubio and Zach LaVine. Minnesota finished at the bottom of the Northwest Division last season, winning just 29 games. However, this is a soft conference and the Timberwolves and head coach Tom Thibodeau are in a better position than most to improve in 2016-17.

Boston Celtics
The Celtics broke from the pack in the Eastern Conference last season, finishing with 48 wins – third most in the Eastern Conference. Now, that’s not saying much considering how weak the East is, but Boston added to an already strong roster by bringing in Al Horford and drafting a talented class of rookies. Brad Stevens hasn’t taken long to put himself in the conversation for Coach of the Year and knows how to overachieve without any true superstars, thanks to his college days at Butler. Boston is deep at just about every position and roster depth has proven profitable – just look at Golden State.

Utah Jazz
Cut from a similar cloth as Boston, Utah lacks true star power. And that helps the Jazz fly under the oddsmakers’ radar most nights. They enter 2016-17 having just missed the playoff the season before and with a roster bulked up on veteran experience thanks to additions like George Hill, Boris Diaw, and Joe Johnson. Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, and Rudy Gobert are Utah’s “star” trio but have some complementing talents in Rodney Hood and Alec Burks to help share the scoring load. Defense and pace is still the name of the game in Salt Lake City, where the Jazz will slow the offensive tempo and grind it out on the other end of the floor.
