Shake things up as college football bettors drive toward bowl season.

Three teams that would love to play spoiler to college football playoff hopes | News Article by

The second round of College Football Playoff rankings were released this past week, with no big surprises among the elite. Alabama was still on top, followed by Clemson and Michigan. Washington got respect with the No. 4 seed, and Ohio State and Louisville sit No. 5 and No. 6 in the poll.

While that seems like a solid class of contenders, these earlier CFP polls never quite look the same at the end of the season. And here are a couple programs with their ncaa football betting lines who could help shake things up as college football bettors drive toward bowl season.

Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans have painfully underperformed this season after being tabbed a dark horse in the Big Ten. Michigan State has only two wins and has lost seven in a row heading into Week 11. However, MSU did show signs of life against Michigan, losing 32-23 but covering the +24.5 at home in Week 9, and fits into a tough stretch of schedule for No. 5 Ohio State in Week 12, with the Buckeyes playing Michigan the following game. The Spartans welcome the Buckeyes to East Lansing and have some built-in confidence after taking a game against OSU in Columbus last season. A win against Ohio State wouldn’t erase this tragic season but it would be validation for the Green and White.

USC Trojans
Southern Cal is not the power it once was in the Pac-12 but it is on the way up. The Trojans are loaded with talent and ride a five-game winning streak into this Saturday’s showdown with No. 4 Washington. Sportsbooks are giving USC 8.5 points on the road, where it hasn’t played its best football. Southern Cal has nothing to lose in the this game, save for some standing come bowl season, while the Huskies really need this game to prove themselves as true title contenders. Southern Cal has won seven of its last 10 meetings, but Washington is 3-2 in the last five.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest could be double trouble for the ACC’s top contenders, playing at Louisville this Saturday and taking on Clemson at home in Week 12. The Deacs sit third in the ACC Atlantic – behind UL and Clemson – having gone 6-3 with some stumbling in recent games. However, Wake Forest scored a much-needed win over Virginia last weekend and has an underrated defense that has allowed 21 points or less in each of its last four games. Without the offensive fire power to keep pace with the Cardinals and Tigers, Wake Forest will lean on that stop unit to produce some turnovers in those games – something it does well, ranked 10th in the country in takeways.
